One Recruiter’s Approach to Corporate Social Responsibility
Money isn’t everything -- right? Most staffing agencies these days do yeoman’s work to recruit new job candidates and offer only monetary referral incentives to those within their network. There’s nothing wrong with using money as a lure, but what if you could refer a worthy candidate, receive a monetary award and know that your efforts helped someone or something in need?
This is the essence of my new referral rewards plan. When you refer a candidate we can place, we will match each cash reward, escalate the amount per referral, and donate that amount to one of the following charities:
- The Washington Humane Society - Since 1870, the WHS has been protecting animals by enforcing DC animal cruelty laws, prosecuting abuse cases, and offering adoption, low cost spaying and neutering and humane education programs from two shelters in NE and NW DC.
- The Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund - The HDSF aims to provide inner city youth from DC's most disenfranchised neighborhood with the opportunities to develop skills, access resources and forge connections that will support their healthy development, academic achievement and life success. Since its inception in 1996, the HDSF has helped send nearly 750 DC public high school students to college, awarding over 1,100 academic scholarships and renewals totaling approximately $2.5 million.
- Rachael's Women's Center - For nearly 30 years, Rachael's has been reaching out to homeless and formerly homeless women and providing them with food, shelter, and care. The center also provides educational programs that encourage empowerment and career placement.
- The Chesapeake Bay Foundation - This independent organization has dedicated itself to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers for 40 years. By reducing pollution, CBF has sought to improve water quality that enhances the quality of life for the people, animals and plant life around the area.
The shared values I hold sacrosanct resonate through the hallways of Midtown’s offices. So many of our own Midtown employees are socially responsible and have continued to volunteer for and donate to charities.
By now you might be intrigued by the rewards plan, but still have questions about how exactly the plan works. Allow me to clarify a few of the “buzz” terms I used above:
A “referral,” for example, means you refer a candidate directly to us or provide us with the candidate’s contact information and we contact him/her directly.
A “match” constitutes either a candidate that we are able to place or a unique organization not in our network with a human resources need.
Finally, “escalating” means if you provide a second referral, you will receive the original cash prize plus a supplement of twice the match amount. The escalated supplement will cap at triple the match amount, but will apply to each subsequent referral. The chart below helps to illustrate the referral and escalate process:
How the Referral Process Works
- $50 for every Temporary placement referral
- $50 for every Temp-to-Perm placement referral
- $100 for every Permanent placement referral
- $100 for every referral of a unique organization that has available positions
How the Escalate Process Works
1st referral: $100 + $100 = $200
2nd referral: $100 + $200 = $300
3rd referral: $100 + $300 = $400
4th referral: $100 + $300 = $400
Total = $1300
If you refer a candidate to us, regardless of his or her future placement, you will always be welcome to attend our year-end Holiday Party, where we will commemorate an advantageous and fulfilling year of finding friends and colleagues jobs they will love, and making a difference in the world!
All those who participated are invited to celebrate with us on Wednesday, December 19th, 2008.
