So, in the theme of adding value to one's self and resume, I feel the need to encourage likability as a trait absolutely necessary to be successful. Of the countless interviews I've performed, likability seems to be the key determinant of an applicant's success in a new position. And there are a great many who feel that the alma mater, a thousand degrees, a 4.1 GPA and what have you can substitute likability but, when it comes down to it, someone else could have the exact same resume and even a bit less so. If you are the one perceived as disagreeable, the more positive guy has the job.
What does being likable entail? Being honest, being personable, being positive, light-hearted, being polite and outgoing. And faking these things is often instantly recognized as being disingenuous. So why make the effort? Being likable reflects a lot about the capacity to learn and if you're genuinely interested in doing so. Being negative, dishonest, or withdrawn may paint an unclear picture in another person's head - if you like what you're doing, then surely there's a way to show that.
If you're not sure about how you're perceived or you want some more information about liability in general you may want to take this likability test
